With a background in swimming, I have coached all levels over the years, and enjoy writing weekly workouts for the club members. I am also happy to work with club members privately on technique and efficiency. I have been competing in triathlons since 1999, and continue to hold a competitive edge finishing overall in the Top 3 in Sprint and Olympic distances. In triathlon, I'm a jack of all trades, but a master at none and that's what keeps me a slave to the sport! Learning to deal with discomfort is probably the most challenging yet rewarding part of triathlon. My 2012 season includes seven events with my peak races, Pacific Crest and Coeur d'Alene Olympic distances.

I began running in 2002 when I entered my first 10K in Tualatin. I was immediately hooked and two years later I raced my first triathlon. My running personal bests consist of 5K 18:25:06, 10K 36:37:00, 15K 1:00:12, half marathon 1:22:07, and marathon 2:57:50. I enjoy running for many personal reasons, but I also enjoy pushing others and helping them reach their personal goals. I think oftentimes we limit ourselves because of various reasons – we get stuck being a certain type of runner because that's all we know. I enjoy encouraging people to risk more and push themselves to see what they can become. We will never know our potential unless we are willing to risk failure and lay it all on the line. I moved to Oregon in 2002 from southern CA. After a very active life of  surfing, snowboarding, and competitive swimming, I found myself stuck to the couch, sulking and putting on a few extra pounds in the middle of a long rainy winter. It took me 6 years to start getting serious about getting fit. I bought my first bike in march of 2008 and did my first sprint triathlon at Hagg lake in July. I fell in love with competing again. Iron Man Arizona in November scares me to death...but that's what gets my heart pumping! Get off the couch and let's have some fun training!

My interest in Triathlon first took hold while I was living in Kona, Hawaii and witnessed the Ironman World Championships in person. While there I started swimming and cycling on the IM course and I was hooked. I participated in my first sprint distance race after moving back to Salem in 2006. Two and a half years later I completed Ironman Arizona. One of the many highlights of my journey was the year I turned 40 and completed 40 races. For me, triathlon is a personal challenge as much as it is a shared experience and an opportunity to play! Coming back from injury and surgery earlier this year, I am doing some short races to build upon for next season.

I've been doing multisport for a little over a decade. My favoite race is the half ironman . I'm looking forward to racing Boise 70.3 this year.I've enjoyed learning about the sport and am a USAT level 1 coach and USA cycling level 3 coach. I've enjoyed being part of the medical tent in Kona Ironman several times and always enjoy learning more about endurance sports. I plan to give more information to the Willamette Valley Triathlon Club on sport nutrition which is constantly in evolution is always an individual experiment as is all of training.

I have been competing in triathlons for 9 years and still love it! Although the olympic distance is my favorite, I have done all distances from sprints to iron distance triathlons. My favorite race throughout my tri years has definitely been Escape from Alcatraz, but I also loved Vineman IM and Troika 1/2 IM. Locally I would say that Hagg Lake is my favorite race. I got into triathlon because I was looking to cross train, but what I've gotten out of triathlon is a great group of friends and workout partners!

2012 will be Year 4 of my Triathlon Journey. The past two years I have been focused on running (Half-Marathon Distance). I will be completing my 1st Marathon in Eugene on April 2012 and racing a few other local triathlon events during the summer. I enjoy Friday evening Open Water Swims at the Silverton Reservior and supporting Willamette Valley Tri Club Members at other races. I hope to be celebrating my 50th Birthday in 2013 after completing my 1st Iron Distance Triathlon (Planned Event: Vineman Full). Hope to see you out there.
